Secrets of Komiža
Explore the town of Komiža and experience its fishing tradition

The Original Story of Komiža
This is a story about the largest fishing industry of the Adriatic, whose center was the town Komiža. It is a story about the collective solidarity of the komižan fishermen who were in constant danger of pirate attacks and about the unique fishing boat – gajeta falkuša.
Gajeta falkuša,
an ancient wooden fishing boat, is one of the central symbols of a thousand-year-old fishing tradition in Komiža. Its design was adapted to specific needs of Komiža fishermen, who went on long fishing expeditions in the open seas, a unique practice in the Adriatic and Mediterranean. The oldest known offshore regatta in Mediterranean is actually a regatta with gajeta falkuša boats organized to reach Palagruža island and its starting point was the port of Komiža.
