70 Years of Ercegović Family Tradition
How it all began and the main reasons, why you should consider Rara Avis for your next holidays
When you observe Rara Avis, one of the first things that come to mind is respect. Respect for the tradition of the Ercegovič family, who have been working in the shipping industry for several generations. For more than 70 years they have passed their knowledge and the results speak for themselves.
In this post, you will learn about the history of the Ercegović family, their beginnings, the yachts they owned, the ones they own now, and their latest acquisition in the fleet Rara Avis together with her Captain Mr. Časlav. We will also give you an inside look at the further benefits of this vessel and why you might consider booking this yacht one year in advance.
Ercegovič Family History – It All Began in The Late 1940s
The family of Marijo Ercegović, owner of Rara Avis, has had a deep relationship with the sea and its boats for more than 70 years. Marijo’s grandfather, his father, and his brothers were all seamen and spent most of their lives on oceans and seas all over the world. It was only natural for Marijo to continue this tradition.
The first boat the family owned was a wooden sailing boat, the Sveti Križ (St. Cross) built in 1947 in a shipyard in Split. It was primarily used for commercial purposes and to transport people.
Sveti Križ is still owned by the family as their private yacht.
All 7 yachts that were owned by Marijo Ercegović
Marijo was the first member of his family who started working in nautical tourism and he’s been doing so since 1996 when he first Captained Mala Maris. From there Rara Avis is the seventh yacht owned by him and his family.

As nautical tourism has been developing, some of these boats were sold, so now Marijo owns four boats: Ocean, Aurora, Diamond, and Rara Avis.
All these boats provide top-level service for their clients.

Rara Avis is a beautiful, intricately designed vessel that reflects within the outer appearance of the yacht with its huge sails. Some of the most famous design companies made plans for Rara Avis, that would make the owners of Perini Navi proud. Everything is planned and designed in a way to provide the ultimate experience for all groups, who will enjoy this yacht immensely.
3. Large Beam
The beam measures 8.4 meters. The result is a spacious interior on the deck of the ship, where you will make the most of your stay. You will not get seasick on this yacht, which means you can enjoy the space, comfort, and privacy this gulet has to offer all week long.
4. Flybridge
The flybridge is a raised second-story helm station that has room for all passengers. It can also be used as a sun deck, offering privacy to relax and take in stunning views.
5. Jacuzzi
One of the flybridge’s specialties is the Jacuzzi. It’s hard to imagine a more luxurious experience, than drinking champagne in a Jacuzzi on a flybridge, overlooking the old city walls of Dubrovnik.
6. Water Sports
As most yachts in this category offer, water sports equipment deserves special mention. Wave runner, water skiing, Ringo ride, snorkels, masks and much more will keep you entertained as, you visit different bays every day.
7. Captain Časlav
What really makes your cruise special, is the crew on board while Captain Časlav is the man responsible for peaceful and comfortable navigation. You can read more about him later in the article.
Časlav is a 30-years-old Captain who’s spent 12 years of his life connected with the sea. He also has a very friendly and cheerful nature and you’re sure to like him from the first moment you meet him especially as he takes his job very seriously and he loves to provide clients with a unique experience.
He enjoys meeting new people from all over the world and he feels it’s his mission to show them all the beauties of his country.
Soon after finishing high school, Časlav realized his love is not commercial and marketing work but the sea and boats. He started working as a sailor on different vessels and he patiently sailed his way to becoming a captain.
The experience he gathered has made him an excellent host who can provide his guests with a memorable cruise.
Časlav has shown enthusiasm and love for nature all his life, so when he’s not sailing, he spends his free time in the mountains. For him, this is an ideal way of recharging his batteries and connecting with nature and his family.
His wife and two children share his love for the job, and his wife also comes from the Ercegović family who have worked in nautical tourism for several generations.
