Must-see attractions
Here are some of the attractions you can not afford to miss.
National Park Mljet
Mljet National Park is the most important protected area of the Dalmatian south. It includes two deep bays which, due to their extremely narrow links with the sea, are aptly named Great Lake and Small Lake. This is an excellent location for spending a day in nature and having total relaxation for your mind and body.
St. Mary islet
There is a 12th-century Benedictine monastery with a church located on Saint Mary islet, situated in the southern part of the Great Lake.
It is definitely worth seeing and also has a coffee place and restaurant on it. A ticket with the small ferry to the islet of Saint Mary is included in the National Park price.
Roman Palace Ruins
Polače features various remains dating from the 1st to the 6th century. The most impressive part about this large palace is its rectangular floor plan and towers on the front corners separated by a pier.
Other ancient ruins scattered around the town include a late Antiquity fort, an early Christian basilica, and a 5th-century church.
Odysseus cave visit
If you would like to be apart from Mljet's flora and fauna, you will love this historical cave. Egg-shaped and located near the village of Babino Polje, it is named after the legend of Odysseus.
You also have a cafe bar called Kalypso close to the cave, which has an amazing view from the terrace.
